Behavior Based Safety (BBS) implementation Project

Behavior- Based Safety (BBS), which is often described as a bottom-up approach (front line employees), with top-down support from safety leaders / Management. A behavior-based safety approach promotes interventions that are people-focused and often incorporate one-to-one or group observations of employees performing routine work tasks, setting goals carefully and giving timely feedback on safety-related behavior, coaching and mentoring. The initiatives have a proactive focus, encouraging individuals and their work groups to consider the potential for incident involvement, (accidents) and to assess their own behavior as safe or unsafe always, no matter what.

A BBS approach is one which

  • Is based on solid principles about engaging, motivating, assisting, reinforcing
  • sustaining safe behaviors
  • Takes a systematic approach, examining the motivation underlying behaviors, in order to increase safe behavior
  • Is an ongoing effort; not ‘once-off’ provisions, but a new way of working that the safety leader must continually promote for sustainable, positive results
  • BBS programs do not depend solely on ‘lagging indicators’ (after the fact), and instead shift the focus to ‘leading indicators’ (preventative).
  • Is not a substitute for an already existing comprehensive health and safety program; it is a supplementary tool that will enhance the effect of already existing practices, and will allow for an objective measurement system.
  • BBS approach has proven to be extremely effective at reducing injury rates, and other serious consequences such as property damage, business interruptions, environmental releases, regulatory agency violations, etc
  • Case studies will include the successful application of effective behavioral techniques in the industry.
  • Results achieved include Zero Lost Time Accident Rates within 12-18 months, and improved bottom line profits

Incident / Accident Investigation as a External investigator

When performed properly, incident/accident investigation reveals deficiencies either with the system and/or the behaviour of the people involved. It highlights the inherent causes of the incident and the potential for further incidents to take place, thereby allowing a decision to be made on how to prevent similar events from re-occurring. NEXA PSE offers varying levels of incident investigation to their clients.

The depth/scope of the investigation is dependent on the seriousness or complexity of the incident. Investigations conducted by OH&S Consulting include:
  • Restricted work cases
  • Lost time injuries from manual handling risk factors
  • Plant damage

Electrical Technical Audit

Electrical Technical Audit considering Relevant Indian & International Standards for following aspects :

  • Audit as per IE Rules 1956 CEA 2010 Safety related to Electricity IS 1646 Elect safety
  • Review of electrical systems and procedures usually followed and physical inspection to identify electrical hazards like fire, overloading.
  • Identify areas of overloading by load current assessments and comparing against cable’s current carrying capacity to suggest electrical safety solutions.
  • Review of electrical preventive maintenance system (checking of documentations) for necessary suggestions and review of electrical accidents if happened in the past to identify the root causes and suggestions.
  • Review of lightning protection system (need, adequacy, installation and maintenance) as per standard norms.
  • Review of earthing system (installation and maintenance aspects) to realize present safety status and providing necessary suggestion.
  • Review of importance given to electrical safety in the safety policy, safety committee, continuous electrical risk identification etc. for necessary improvement.
  • Recommendation for operational questions & good practice of electrical maintenance in building.
  • Electrical Practice’s , installation of electrical switchgear
  • Cable layout and life
  • IS guideline for workman to handle HT and LT switchgear ( i.e. Qualification , safe distance , PPE , Certification )
